Giving back: benefits of volunteering in aged care

Volunteering in a residential aged care home can be a truly rewarding experience for both the residents and volunteers, and is an excellent way to make a difference within your local community.

Ensuring that residents enjoy a purposeful and fulfilling lifestyle is at the heart of our KMAC community. Each one of our residents is unique, and by volunteering, you’ll be able to provide the additional support needed to ensure residents can continue to engage in life-long interests they enjoy.

In the fast-paced, modern society we live in, time is a precious commodity. But dedicating just a fraction of your time to helping others can have long-lasting benefits, not only for our residents but for you as volunteers, too. It’s not often we get the chance to socialise with others outside of our usual crowd, yet spending time with different age groups, cultures, and backgrounds can give us a new perspective on life and refreshing insights into new ways of thinking. The ‘activities’ that our residents really appreciate from volunteers are company, conversation and socialisation.

Become a volunteer

We have a flexible approach to residential aged care at KMAC, from our extensive lifestyle programs through to our flexible pricing structure, and this flexibility is extended to our volunteer service too. So, whether you can only spare a couple of hours a week or you’re able to offer frequent, daily support, if you’re passionate about making a difference to the lives of others then we’d love to welcome you to the team.

How you could help

Our lifestyle programs are as varied and vibrant as our residents, but typical lifestyle options, where you could be involved, could include:

  • Company, conversation and socialisation
  • Reading to our Residents
  • Fundraising activities
  • Gardening
  • Assisting with excursions
  • Birthday parties, high teas and other themed celebrations
  • Craft activities
